- Tell us a bit about your job and how long you’ve been with the company.
I am a Graduate Systems Engineer and work in the Hosting Services team based in Belfast. My team supports all of the servers and UNIX/Linux platforms across each of our strategic business units. I first joined Liberty IT as a placement student in June 2011 and then returned after graduating from university.
- Have you done any travelling with Liberty IT?
I have travelled to our US office in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, several times. I enjoy these trips as they allow me to network with my US based colleagues and get more hands on training and mentoring.
- Tell us a little bit about your education and how you came to work in IT.
I finished school and went onto the Southern Regional College to do a BTEC National Diploma in IT Practitioners Software Development. Once I finished this two year course, I studied a BSc Hons in Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Ulster.
- What advice do you have for potential employees joining Liberty IT?
Be prepared to start learning new skills and technologies as the IT sector is always changing, but you don’t need to worry as Liberty IT will help you on your way! Upon joining, you are provided with all the necessary training and mentoring you need to get you up to speed to do your job effectively, and everyone is really friendly and supportive from day one.
- What’s the best thing about working in Liberty IT?
The work-life balance is one of the best things for me. The company is very flexible and has a fairly relaxed working environment with the ability of working from home and starting work between 8-10am and finishing between 4-6pm (depending on what project you’re working on). Also, the social events each month are a great opportunity to socialise with your team and to meet new people.
